Hello! I'm BrendaNature Artist & Art Instructor

I am a self-taught nature artist. I am the co-founder of the Art Gallery of Lambeth & Studio in London, Ontario where I paint and teach art full time.

I have honed my skills by studying books, videos and attending studio and field courses with internationally know artists such as Robert Bateman, Marilyn Kinsella, and Jack Ried.

From my earliest memories, art and nature have been intertwined in my life. While growing up, I was either sitting in my room drawing, out climbing trees or at the creek exploring. I was always rescuing an injured bird or a lost dog.

In my family, artist wasn’t a career option. My parents encouraged me to ‘get a real job’ so I decided to go to college to become a Veterinary Technician. While at school, I used my drawing skills as a study technique to learn my animal anatomy. My fellow students begged me to do portraits of their dogs and horses.

I’ve always loved being out in nature, at the beach, in the woods or traipsing through the creek. This is where I felt whole. I love camping, building campfires, cooking outside, being away from cities, towns and people. I’ve always been more comfortable in nature or with animals than with people. I am an introvert by nature and need lots of alone time. Nothing inspires my creativity more than being out in nature.

I would escape into natural spaces at every opportunity. Studying and exploring Mother Nature and animals, helped to ground me, clear out my head and break free. I could bring on-location sketches and photographs into the studio. My studio became my safe haven, where I could retreat back into the natural world; where I could breathe again.  My creations were places where I could hear my heart; I could be myself.  Being out in nature and my art became my meditative practice. It soothed my soul. It saved my life.

Through my paintings, I want to transport you back to nature, so you can remember what it was like to be in that space. You will feel that intimate moment with nature; it will touch your soul. You can almost hear the leaves rustling in the wind, the waves crashing against the shore. You can hear the birds singing their song.

Remember what it’s like to stand on the edge of that stream and dip your toe in cool water. Recapture that sense of awe while watching the pelicans fishing or the hawk hunting.

Remember to relax and breathe.
