Great workshop for beginners and those with some experience wanted to learn how to combine textures and depth, pulling handles and new glazing techniques!

Ages 14+

This is not your typical mug making workshop!! We will be working with textures, depth, your favourite botanical or leaves and premium stoneware clay and glazes to make the perfect mug to enjoy your favourite warm beverage during the fall season.  Your mug will be fired in the kiln two times for a high quality lasting mug.   This is a fun and rewarding experience!  Every project is guaranteed to be successful!

These workshops are designed to teach you the process of hand building pottery without the longterm commitments.
You choose the projects you want to learn and you make it while you are learn!!
Once you have mastered the skills, you can come in and use studio time to create many lovely mugs and get your Christmas shopping list crossed off!!!
Pottery makes a great gift!

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:  Our pottery instructor is a high school teacher and artist. She will walk you through step by step and teach you how to construct the perfect mug and handle. With her experience,  method, tips and tricks, all projects are successful. You will learn how to use the tools and all the steps to build and shape a custom mug. You will work with a combination of textures and learn to put them together to create a gorgeous and functional mug. In the second workshop you will learn different techniques and how to apply a premium glazes to enhance the textures in your final work of art and bring the overall design together. Most workshops only offer a one day mug building class with clay based glazes for the finish.  Here, in our studio we will be applying two different premium glazes, to ensure that your product is the highest of quality and will last a lifetime so you can pass your handmade pottery down as an heirloom if you wish! Your mug will be fired twice, once after you construct the mug and apply the first layer of glaze and once after you glaze it with our premium lasting glazes finishes. This will ensure you have a mug that stand the test of time and you texture will be enhanced. Every mug will be success with this method!

Once you learn these techniques you are welcome to come use the open clay studio to make more for all your friends and family.   They make great gifts!

WHAT YOU NEED: Bring your own favourite leaves to impress into the clay.  Choose a variety of sizes of 3-5 leaves. (if you do not some will be provided for you).

WHAT MAKES THIS WORKSHOP DIFFERENT THEN THE REST:  This is two day workshop working with premium stoneware clay, specially crafted premium glazes and glaze techniques that will enhance the textures on your mug.  Once this glaze is fired on, your mug will be food safe, dishwasher, microwave and even oven safe if you wish!!  The premium clay and glaze used will stand the test of time.  ALL Premium glazes require that you fire your pottery before applying a glaze and a second firing is required.  Most pottery workshops offer one day mug building workshops and use a clay  based glaze that can be applied while the clay is still wet and this allows to have the project complete in once sitting which doesn’t provide the same last quality or effects on your mug as this workshop.

This workshop is a fun and rewarding experience for even the most beginner potter and you will learn the foundations, techniques and tools used to work with clay while making the perfect fall mug.  After this workshop you will have all the skills to make many more mugs.  We offer open studio time that you can come in and create.  We also have all the supplies and kits to assist you in setting up a little workshop at home to make your pottery and bring it to us for firing!

This is a great class for those who want to learn pottery but do not have the time to take long term classes. Students will learn how to use the tool, techniques and how to work with clay one project at a time and start to create from home!!

In this workshop you will create your mug on Saturday and you will come back to glaze it when it has been fired!! We will be using  premium stoneware clay, (made for oven/microwave safe projects), and this workshop includes all your firing and glazing.  Glazes will be premium quality glazes (made for food safe dishes) and have a great selection of glaze combinations.
