Event Details

Pottery is the process and the products of forming vessels and other objects with clay and other ceramic materials, which are fired at high temperatures to give them a hard, durable form. Working with clay is such a amazing and rewarding art form.  The possibilities are endless.  This 8 week course is a very hands on experience learning the foundations and essentials techniques used in handbuilding practices. Students will achieve a good understanding of the process, and put into practise the techniques learned to create many forms.  This foundations course is absolutely essential and the building blocks to all pottery/ceramics creations.

Notes on Covid safety:  in order to keep everyone safe during these time, mask are required by everyone, no exceptions.  We will only have 6 students in our studio at a time so everyone has their own table and socially distance place to work in.  We have a great safety procedures in place,  which also include sanitizing your hands as you enter, we wash all surfaces down before and after all classes and we are keeping sharing tools to a minimum or will have wash/sanitize procedures in place.  We may ask you to buy a tool kit for a class. We ask that if you have any symptoms you stay home.  We have a person of high risk on our team and we trust that everyone will take every precaution to keep us safe as we will do the same for you.

In this course your will with premium stoneware clay, (made for oven/microwave safe projects), all your firing and glazing.  Glazes will be premium quality glazes (made for food safe dishes) and have a great selection of glaze combinations.   Techniques will be demonstrated  and in turn the students will have the opportunity to  practise those techniques with various projects.

We will learn coil, slab and pinch techniques along with learning the tools used in pottery, cleaning up your pottery, and sculpting foundations to creating amazing pottery that looks wheel thrown.  There will be time in the last couple weeks to create your own designs and structures using the techniques you learned in class.
The course will run in a manner that if we cannot continue due to COVID shut down, you pick up all your supplies and we will resume lessons online through ZOOM, you will deliver end results for firing and pick up for glazing and deliver once more for firing the glaze.

Class Overview:

  • students will learn the essential techniques to working with clay.
  • Students will learn the process of clay making from start to finish including finishing techniques
  • Students will create many forms to put into practise the techniques learned.
  • Students are required to wear a mask
  • Students will be using premium stoneware clay and glazes
  • Only 6 students per class

Cost: $325 plus hst;

If The AGL studio cancels a class you will receive 100% refund.

If you cannot make your class for any unforeseen circumstances your money is never lost. If you give us notice before the class we will give you a credit to use towards another class or workshop at a future date with that instructor.

If a student misses a class and does not contact the gallery before the start time of the class, there will be no refunds. No exceptions.

If you cancel a class 20 days before the start time and do not wish to have a credit a cancelation fee of 10% will apply and an administration fee of $20. There will be option of refunds less than 20 days but a credit will remain to be used with that instructor at a future date.

If there is an act of god that is beyond our control and we need to suspend or reschedule a class we will do our best to accommodate dates to run the class at a future date. If we were unable to find a suitable time you will still be given a credit to apply towards a future class with that instructor.
